What is Green Computing?
Green Computing is the act of computing and using technology in a manner that is eco-friendly, as well as disposing of and/or recycling technology in a way that is planet-friendly. Green computing can fall under four topics:
Using energy efficient technology: ex: laptops vs. desktop computers
Using resources efficiently: ex: reducing paper consumption
Disposing of technology properly so that nothing goes into the waste stream
Reducing toxic materials and chemicals in finished products
Energy Star
ENERGY STAR, started in 1922, is a program run in joint by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Energy. The goal of this program was fairly simple: to identify and promote energy-efficient products. A consumer can think of buying and using a product with the Energy Star label as participating in Green Computing because a product can only receive the esteemed energy star label if they meet the standards of the EPA and the US Department of Energy.
